Our History
A new pack we are growing in leaps and bounds and have a great deal to show
for our efforts. October 2003 pack 255 participated with its charter in the
Fire Prevention Program. Helping to raise funds for a local student who is recovering from severe burn injuries. In addition
the pack helped with and rode on the float that took second place in the Fire Prevention Parade. As a follow up the pack presented
to the community of Carlsbad an Emergency Preparedness Program to help save lives and property.
Seven
Cub Scouts have earned their Emergency preparedness badge. Rosie of the Carlsbad
American Red Cross came to present their role in the community. Response services and how they can help families in need.
Available 24 hours a day they are on call and ready to serve. Nate Skelton from the Otis Fire Department presented information
on the different types of fire extinguishers and how to properly put out a fire. With the help of a local pack 283 Cub Scout
he showed the audience how to pull the pin, aim, trigger and spray low and at the base of the fire. Andrew Gonzales, Colton
Thacker, Manuel Duran and Chris Olivas participated in a skit to show the value of having the right equipment and being prepared
in an emergency. That buying valuable time can save lives and make it easier for local emergency agencies to be more effective
in the community
Pack 255, only two months old showed leadership, pride
and patriotism in their float entry. On November 29th 2003,they took to the streets of Carlsbad in style, winning first place
in the organization category. Competing with over 30 floats in the parade this
is truly an accomplishment to be very proud. Riding on the float to represent the North we thank Santa Claus for joining in
the celebration as many were very pleased to see him. Accompanied by his little helpers who
spread around good cheer. In the second window Steven and Rachel Fischer represented the South by cooking up some gators,
lizards and snakes. In the East we had Mother Mary ,Joseph and baby Jesus who
remind us of the reason for the season. And in the West we had our patriots Andrew Gonzales, Manuel Duran and several scouts
from the Loving pack. Together it was a complete package
Scouts are working on earning our Conservation Merit Badge. In the next few months we will be working on a conservation
project with the pack. Be sure if you missed Conservation Good Turn to not miss our next project. The following is a list
of the requirements by rank. Lets make a difference in our environment and ensure future scouts will enjoy Carlsbad as much
as we do.
The Cub Scout version of the badge consists
of a giant panda on violet Scout trefoil, violet trim, gold background (No. 00139). The two-inch embroidered emblem is worn
as temporary patch, centered on right pocket. This award can be earned only once while you are a Cub Scout.
In December of 2003 Pack 255 cub scouts and the American Red Cross
Teamed up to provide 80 kids in Carlsbad with stockings stuffed with toys for Christmas. Next year we hope to do even more.
So what's next? Check out our activities page and come join us at Puckett Elementary School Thursdays at 6:30pm.
Ballad of an Eagle Scout
|
Hiking Scouts go marching by, Cheerful boys who laugh and cry, Boys
who mean just what they say Make them Eagles all some day
Silver wings upon their chests, These are boys, America's best, One
hundred boys will join the troop, But only three in the Eagle group.
Trained to live off nature's land, Taught to build, and lend a hand, Boys
who learn by natures call, Courage from the Oath and Law.
Silver wings upon their chests, These are boys, America's best, One
hundred boys will join the troop, But only three in the Eagle group.
Back at home a young mom waits, Her Scout is set to review his fate, He
has just to pass this test, Leaving her this one request:
Put silver wings on my son's chest, Make him one of America's best, He'll
be a man they'll test him out, Have him be an Eagle Scout |
